now for an observation: in the past year and a half to two years on mtgo, i have noticed something and thus have come to the following conclusion.

there are two prices for cards on mtgo: buy and sell(duh). buy is low while sell is high. however, the important thing is that nearly everything can be found - with some time - for the lower 'buy' price. even on cards that are being advertized by bots as buying for more. getting for less than bot buy is a little slower.

the old adage of "buy low, sell high" really only applies for things you want to resell for profit. cards you want to keep, well, they should only be acquired for near bot buy prices. passing up super good deals of cards and reselling them can often lead to regrets("damn, i wish i'd held on to that."). buying near bot buy prices keeps things affordable and let's you get the most value out of the tickets you have.

the credit system that most bots use is a great way to flesh out your collection on the cheap. if you can profit a few cents on selling stuff to a bot, you can then use the credits it has saved up to buy cards you need, at no cost to yourself. that is what i do for the most part. i hate buying anything worth over 1 ticket from bots, i much prefer to buy from a live human. and for less than what the bot is charging.

however, as is often the case, the time devoted to finding a card for cheaper takes time, and it may just be easier to pay the extra that a bot charges to have it immediately.

lastly, before buying or selling anything with a bot, scan through the ads in the message board. all of them. i can not tell you how many times i did not and just botted a card, only to see someone with a better offer!

i paid near nova's buy price on the foil bitterblossom. i then shopped it around a good bit, eventually i put up an advert to trade it for 2x nonfoils of it, or sell for 2-3 tix over what i paid. there was only one seller advertizing it on the msg boards. i undercut him but about 2 tix. took a few hours, but it sold.

the demonic tutor was an insane find. i had just been talking w mont about him getting one cheap, and my still needing another, while entering a trade of my own. not two minutes into the trade, i look up and see it in the bot's binder. i could barely conceal my joy. i stopped looking for other cards, told the bot i was done, and confirmed the trade. it cost me slightly under a whole ticket...i was really tempted to resell it for around 15 tix, but didnt, as i needed it myself.

the foil haunting echoes: i almost felt sorry for the seller in auction. he had a min of 6 though, and it got it. i think i bid it up to 7 actually. but auction was pretty dead at the time. just me and one other guy bidding. i was bidding based on what nova was paying, and praying he would buy it from me even though he had a few already. he did, and offered about 12.88 on it. very nice. i then went back and tipped the neer something good.

i found the preeminanent captain on a bot with outdated prices for 0.80. at the time, cbb was paying 1.75 on it. i waited and waited to sell it, asking 2 in an advert. no action or price change for two days. i sell it to cbb for 1.75. then it goes up to three in short order.

got the 4x gilt leaf archdruid from a guy whose bot i used to frequent on v2.5. he has pretty much quit and is now selling off stuff manually, but isnt on very often. i paid 0.25 each; and resold them to cbb for 1.10 each.

the glen elandra archmage was lucky, i think the bot had just gotten it in. i resold it for slightly over 4 tix in profit. didnt bother taking the time to shop it around, which i regret.

1x glimpse of nature, 5x trinisphere, 5x serum powder: i paid 0.50 each on these. a very badly coded and outdated bot. had noticed previously that cbb was paying over 1 each on the serums, and trinisphere has been near one for awhile. i sold all 5 serums to cbb for 1.25 each, the glimpse went for 2.3 to mtgo bazaar, as well as the trinisphere's for 1.11. they were a bitch to sell tho, as that bot chain was out of tix for a few hours.

now i shall comment on the last two items in the list - the foil bloodhall ooze and the 10th ed elvish piper. i had picked up the ooze along with about 5 other rares, off a bot at 1 each. i then visited nova, where he bought the others for 1.00-1.30 each. however, he had lowered his buy price on the ooze, from 1.10 to 0.95! i nearly panicked and sold anyways - at a slight loss. i then went and tried alot of bots....best offer i got was 1.008 or so from "topdecker" who i know often overpays. but he had no tix. back to plying the msg boards, looking for bots that are paying similarly or just even look for foils. i get offers from 0.13 to 0.67 on it. im about past the letter M and getting desperate. auction is looking tempting, if only it had a neer. i spy a guy buying foils, who is a "real person" so i pm him first and ask if he is interested. he is but wants to trade rather than buy. im like, "frell. i just want my tic back. doubt i can get anything worthwhile in trade. blech!" i then ask him what the card is worth to him and he tells me what mtgo traders sells for. not quite an answer to my question, but he then said cards worth around one in total. by that point ive seen a few things of note, both above and below one tic. i ask him if a 10th ed elvish piper would be okay. he says sure, and i squeal silently. i had seen cbb offering 1.25 or so on the piper earlier in the day. we do they trade. i then head to cbb to sell - for 1.35.

i could have easily cut my losses and sold to nova for 0.95 or tried to get 1.00 out of a human, with more time. my diligence and craftiness allowed my to turn what would have been zero gain into a good chunk of change. i would have been happy with the 1.10 that nova was offering originally. i think i spent a good hour hunting for a better price from bots. only to find a human willing to exchange it for a more valuable card. which is why casual trade is almost always a bad idea - things rarely have the exact same values and someone is usually coming out ahead.

before i delve into my newest chunk of plunder, i need to comment on things.

first, i bought too many copies of emeria angel the other day, and was not fast enough in reselling them. i missed the bubble slash price spike. i got delayed for many unavoidable reasons. there was too much going on with my dad just being back home and we were mailing out packages that needed three(3) people to put together. i missed profitting; and i missed making exactly what i paid back, the next day when i went afk for ten minutes.

i ended up selling a playset of them for 3 tix under what i paid - and it took about 3 days. my first significant loss in many months. it didnt sit well with me. not at all. i ended up rationizing it. the playset i already owned cost me around 0.25-0.50 each. the second playset i bought to resell cost me 3.75 each. here is how i see it: i resold the ones i paid very little for for 3 each each; the ones i paid 3.75 each on are the ones i kept. it should be pointed out that the first 5x of them that i resold after the price spike, i was able to profit off of: i made 2 tix on one and 0.50 tix each on the other 4.

busy busy. going into the wwk release festivities, i had amassed around 155 tix. i used some to play in a prerelease, going 1-3 and narrowly missing out on any prizes. was fun though. not much in my pool or resale worse, blech, oh well. during the first day or so of the official wwk release, i popped a jace mind sculptor that i was able to resell for like 53, yay. that and money in the bank allowed me to buy many a pack with cash, as well as a good number of pax with tickets. i did around 10 release event drafts of www. making the 2nd round in a good percentage of them.

and now, the real insanity begins. im not sure exactly when, why, or where i began looking at the "mtgo library" site's wikiprice for bots to resell to. it just kind of began creeping up and happening on occasion - as i was often visting bots on their system anyways. but once i realized there was a virtual goldmine there, i began in earnest. the next few days were a whirlwind of trades and mad plunder. im not sure how much i made, nor am i sure how much i spend. but my guess is around 200 tix spent, in roughly 3 days. it was quite a rush. and i must say, the thrill is quite addictive! a nice lil surge of adrenaline.

there ya go. lots of stuff. of particular note in there, are like 8-9 bitterblossoms. i....was able to pick them up for around 8 each; i resold them a week later, after anxiously sitting on them in speculation, as they went up and up. i got roughly 20-21 each on the 5 i resold. i kept the others(a playset) for myself for use. while sitting on them, moon helped me pass the time by having me sell some stuff for him. it was rather fun, but would have taken way too much time to do for him. and as i was already online....

so, that leads me here, to today. just a few days past the release of Urza's Legacy. release events started yesterday; ive only gotten in two drafts. i made round 2 in both, as well as cracking a grim monolith in both drafts. so i got both a money rare i could resell for more than an UL draft set, as well as prizes to recycle. however, after i sold my last bitterblossom last night, i had a new goal....

prior to this, i had only ever had like 160-180 tickets on hand at any one time. 200 tickets was a long sought after goal to reach. and well, i..not only reached it, i shattered it so thoroughly i barely remember crossing the 200 tic threshold. yup, not long ago, i hit the 300 ticket milestone! and i saved the screenshot from the trade.
